La Grange Saint – Martin : a fireplace and a forest, one hour from Paris

The thick stone walls of this beautiful farmhouse sits on the edge of the woods. Less than an hour from Paris and a few kilometers from Fontainebleau, the guest house at La Grange Saint-Martin welcomes you for a family vacation in the genuine countryside. A modern and refined interior, evenings by the fireplace, spacious rooms, and beautiful French castles are all within easy reach: you’ll love winter more than ever.

The decor
A short hour-long drive from Paris and you have arrived at La Grange Saint-Martin, quietly nestled in the heart of 15 acres of woods and meadows. The guest house is ideally situated ten kilometers from Fontainebleau, Vaux-le-Vicomte and Blandy-les-Tours; the charming painter’s village Barbizon is not far either, on the edge of the forest of Fontainebleau. Walks in the woods, mushroom picking, and a rich historical heritage will set the tone for your relaxing family vacation.

The Property
Régine Salvan and her husband have transformed an old Brie farmhouse from the eighteenth century, neglected for nearly 60 years, into an oasis of countryside calm. Preserving the authenticity of the property, with its old stones and impressive wood frame, the hostess has opted for a simple and modern design. The light fixture made of brushed metal by Henri Mathieu, the suspended fireplace under a six meter high ceiling or the raw wood coffee table : furnishing details are elegant and sublimate this old farm, firmly set in its soil.

For kids
All the rooms are spacious enough to welcome families, without sacrificing any comfort– an important feature for an extended stay. With cribs offered by the hostess and the high-chairs available during the delightful breakfasts (home made yogourts and jam), children will immediately feel at home on the farm : it is perfect for frolicking through the garden, making small trips to the woods, and jumping in puddles. Kids will also be welcomed by Pompon and Rusty, the donkey and horse grazing in the nearby meadow.

We Love..
… booking an extra night in one of the treehouses built by Julien, Régine’s son. With candle-lit evenings and squirrels as the only neighbors, you and your children will feel like modern Robinsons.
… renting bikes to explore.

To Discover
The Fontainebleau and its many shops, sunday morning market, or its famous castle, offering a special visit for the younger explorers who are invited to solve problems on an iPad– a must-do for 8-12 year olds.
